RENCO Vegetable Rennet

Feeding Rennet To Calves

Farmers have fed calf rennet to young calves to assist milk coagulation in the stomach and reduce scouring. To provide even more assurance that bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) cannot occur in this country, a ban is in place preventing the feeding of ruminant protein (protein sourced from cattle, sheep, deer, goats, etc.) to ruminants. This ban includes calf rennet.

RENCO can no longer supply calf rennet for this purpose. However, in its place we can supply a vegetable rennet of equal milk clotting activity. This food grade enzyme is widely used in the cheese industry around the world. We believe that this preparation is equally effective in clotting milk in the calf's stomach and should be used in the same way as previously with calf rennet.

RENCO Vegetable Rennet can be purchased direct from RENCO's manufacturing site at a wholesale price of $36.80 including GST per litre (500 doses).
